| Free Will

One reason why the universe (at first) seems to operate impersonally, is that if it operated personally we would lack our fundamental human right of free will and choice. Consequently we have measures of good and evil and beauty and danger. To have only a narrowed form of creation, for example, only evil, would deny us free will. Free will is conditional upon having a multiplicity of conditions and choices. The conditions and choices seem to say to us, “Look for the honourable and the sublime.” Therefore the universe has the appearance of a neutral or impersonal page, that we may fill it with honourable and sublime realisations.
